Meet Your Teacher

Malick Mbengue is a professional percussionist, author, and educator from Cádiz, Spain, a city renowned as the birthplace of Flamenco. With mixed Spanish/Senegalese heritage and a lifelong immersion in Andalusian music, Malick embodies the fusion of cultures that defines his artistry.

He began playing the cajón and djembe at the age of seven, performing in local Flamenco bands by the age of 12. Malick later refined his skills through formal studies in percussion and classical music at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory of Music in Cádiz and jazz at the Escuela de Música Moderna de la UCA. His technique blends the rhythmic traditions of Flamenco, African, and Latin music with the improvisational freedom of jazz, creating a unique and versatile style.

Malick has collaborated with celebrated Flamenco artists such as David Palomar, Carmen Ledezma, and Mercedes Ruiz, as well as international jazz legends like Jerry González and Chano Domínguez. His global performances have taken him to prestigious venues such as London’s Ronnie Scott’s and the Love Supreme Festival.

In addition to performing, Malick has shared his expertise through masterclasses, seminars, and his published work on Flamenco percussion. A passionate educator, he continues to inspire students with his deep understanding of rhythm, culture, and the art of Flamenco.
