Introduction
My Musical Journey | I fell in love with the guitar when I was 5, but only at 12 -for the first time- I saw a woman playing one. That’s when I started begging my parents to send me to music school. I attended a local school from 14 to 18, first learning chords and basic rhythms on a classic guitar, then switching to electric and studying rock, blues and metal. My idols growing up where Clapton, Gilmour and Knopfler (I’m a Fender girl after all). After that I didn’t touch a guitar for more than 8 years. When I moved country I picked it up again and started singing and writing my own songs. While living in Belgium, I started busking and performing solo, and after some years I finally recorded some songs and produced my first EP ‘Lost In Translation’ (released in 2024). The EP is a true product of my Belgian years, mood and lyrics wise, while the sound is more rooted in international 90’s pop-rock. For the past couple of years I’ve been traveling in West Africa, more and more obsessed by the music from this wonderful corner of the world, and in particular with desert rock-blues, which quickly became my new favourite genre and addiction. At the moment I’m trying to learn more about it and I can’t wait to produce some new music inspired by my new desert idols (Bombino in the first place!). During my travels in Burkina Faso, I also started playing djembe, mostly studying traditional rhythms from Mali, Burkina and Côte d’Ivoire. In the past 8 months I’ve been living in Morocco and grew closer to Moroccan rhythms and gnaoua music (I recently started playing the qraqabs). I’m fascinated by almost all kinds of percussions and I’m currently teaching myself to play a little bit of drums too. Next to being a musician, I’m also a videography lover. I started from zero, filming my travels and editing vlogs, and became better and better at it. My favourite thing is to shoot and edit videos of live performances, videoclips or music documentaries. |

What's special about these songs? | Bombino, Azamane Tiliade (Live in Amsterdam) Well, I think it says enough if I say I’ve been called ‘Bombina’ by several friends! Goumour ‘Bombino’ Almoctar is my absolute guitar idol and this song a true obsession for me. And this live version is just great. Etran de L’Aïr, Amidinine What to say? I’m obviously a fan of desert rock from Niger, and Etran always bring a more familiar, traditional sound that keeps on staying true to the roots of the desert. This song is probably my favourite, thanks to that fantastic, simple guitar riff that just keeps on going on those more and more up tempo drums! Les Filles de Illighadad, Tihilele A classic, wonderful piece of art by the female trio from Illighadad, Niger. The repetitive guitar strums and lines from Fatou Seidi Ghali (the first Tamasheq woman to play guitar professionally!), the constant precise clapping, the call and response “illeillallah leylehleh”.. just simply make me want to listen to this song over and over. |
