Zeca Pagodinho, born Jessé Gomes da Silva Filho in Rio de Janeiro in 1959, is one of Brazil’s most beloved samba and pagode singer-songwriters. He grew up immersed in samba culture, writing verses as a child at the Portela samba school and later joining the Carnival block Cacique de Ramos, a hub for the pagode style. His big break came in 1983 when Beth Carvalho invited him to record Camarão Que Dorme a Onda Leva, launching a career that has spanned decades.

Since then, Pagodinho has released more than 15 albums and several DVDs, becoming one of Brazil’s top-selling artists. His songs are known for their playful, witty, and joyful reflections of everyday life in Rio, embodying the spirit of the easygoing carioca. Among his most famous tracks is Deixa a Vida Me Levar, which gained international recognition after being featured in the video game FIFA 2004.

In 2015, Ser Humano was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in the Best Samba/Pagode Album category.
